Moving to Miami is one of the best decisions that you could possibly make. Miami is known extensively for its sunshine, food, beaches, and tourist friendly environments. Miami is home to great sports teams like the former NBA champions Heat and the 2 time NFL Super Bowl champion Dolphins. We all know that Miami is great but how great is it when it comes to your income tax?

It costs a lot of money to move these days. In some cases you may need a rental car or truck to assist you in your relocation process. The million dollar question is can you deduct the rental car costs as a moving expense when you file your taxes. Well it really depends. If you are moving just to move then no. You cannot deduct those rental car costs off of your taxes. If you are moving because your job requires you to move or you are moving because of a new job you have found, then you most certainly can claim those expenses.

You will need to put those costs on a form called the 3903. You will use it to report to the IRS in order to get the deduction. Make sure that you keep track of your gas receipts, car mileage, and you should be golden. Also keep track of any reimbursements that your employer gives you. The Feds need to know about that too.

For more details on this subject call around to a few local tax return agencies. It’s better to make sure that you have your ducks in a row before you try to deduct anything.
